I’m sure this little side table was gorgeous once, but when I got my hands on it, it had definitely seen better days! A lot of the detail had been painted over and it was ready for a brand new look!
Well as it happens, I’m not one to pass up on a bargain (or six..) , so when I saw this for £10 I snapped it up! I just loved the detail on this little fella and with a bit of TLC I was sure it could be restored to its’ former glory.
What it probably needed more than anything was a good clean as it was covered in grime and dirt. So, out came the sugar soap to give everything a good scrub down first. Turns out this little side table had a secret … a packet of crisps tucked away behind the little drawer!
For this gorgeous table I decided on chalk paint (no sanding and very little prepping .. the perfect combo!) I had been wanting to try this Mineral Fusion paint for a long time and this was the perfect opportunity to try out their “Seaside” colour. I’m not even kidding, I think I’m in love .. how gorgeous is this shade? If you are thinking of painting a piece of furniture for a new look, I DEFINITELY recommend Mineral Fusion – this paint glides on like a dream.
Even after just one coat it looked like a completely different table! However, I gave it a second coat to be sure.
Adding detail to your side table
To bring out the detail in the legs and the edges I opted to use some gold wax. I applied this with my fingers. (Of course you can use a brush if you prefer! However, I find working with my fingers gives me better control when adding detail)
Love how it shimmers in the light It’s all starting to take shape
The handles needed a whole make over of their own! Fortunately, the paint and varnish remover came to the rescue. So, I stripped them back to basics (not the most fun job!!) and after a few coatings of gold spray paint they now match the detail perfectly!
I finished the inside of the drawers by adding some left over wall paper – it hides a multitude of sins! If you have a drawer that is covered in crayon, pen or other markings, a piece of wallpaper is definitely your friend.
Time to strip back the paint Looking pretty bare Bling!
Just look how it’s changed the appearance of those drawers.
And the detail you can get from using some gold wax!
What do you think of the end result? This one went to a good home as we didn’t have room for it .. insert sad emoji ..
