I don’t do embroidery .. Actually, typing this reminds me of the interview scene from Mrs Doubtfire .. “I don’t do washing, I don’t do basements, I don’t do dinners ..” Well, .. I don’t do embroidery! ๐ but kudos to anyone who does! Respect to you!
I love the look and thought of it .. but it doesn’t love me back ๐ Embroidery HOOPS on the other hand .. now you’re talking! You can do some great projects with these beauties. Let’s have some Spring/Summer fun with one that I picked up from The Range.
what I used for my embroidery hoop pocket sign
An embroidery hoop – I used a 9 inch ring (they do different sizes) from The Range.
Some burlap material – I got mine in Hobbycraft
Hot glue (of course!)
Some pearl details – this was a wedding garland from The Range
A bunch of Lavender – I got mine from The Range but can’t see them online. Amazon do these.
Some craft lace – The Range again – you can find it here.
Some Scrabble craft tiles – you’ve guessed it .. The Range! They’re here.
how to make your sign
Cut some of the material wide enough to fit in the embroidery hoop.
Next, cut a little bit extra that will cover about half way. This will create your “pocket”.
Pop the inner ring out of the outer ring by unscrewing the fitting. I made the ring as wide as possible as I knew I wanted to fit in a double layer of the material. Position your burlap material and pop the outer ring over the material so that the inner ring fits back in. Tighten the mechanism in place.
You should now have something like this:
The next bit isn’t pretty, but because the material is so porous I didn’t want to hot glue it to the back as the glue would just seep through. So .. scissors did the trick!! As I said, not pretty but easy and functional ๐
Filling up the pocket!
This is the bit I love .. making it pretty!
I used a pearl wedding garland to hot glue on the outside of the circle. I think it finishes it of very nicely and adds a bit of glam ๐
Because I made this on a Facebook Live I don’t have any progress photos as such so the below is just to give you an idea of what I mean!
I love this project for its’ simplicity! Tuck some flowers into the pocket .. I chose some pretty lavender! They were ยฃ1.99 a bunch in The Range and one was enough to finish this picture.
Finally, I took some crafting lace and hot glued it over the top of the pocket. It just hides some of the frayed edges and I love the way the lace colour matches the lavender.
The end result!
If you want to see how I made this, and how I added the wording, you can catch this project on a Facebook Live video here.
Basically, I just hot glued some scrabble craft tiles with a single sprig of lavender to the front.
It really is one of the simplest crafts but SO effective!
I love the whole turquoise/lilac combo!! This could become a theme everyone! ๐
