You’ve seen me use my hot glue gun for a lot of my projects. But .. what if I told you that you can EASILY create your own embellishments with that same hot glue gun? Crazy right??! This little hack is so easy! And I think you’re going to LOVE it as much as I do! Let me show you ..
here’s what you need:
A heat resistant silicone mould of your choice – I used this little pumpkin cutie!
Hot glue – I’m loving my new Ryobi cordless hot glue gun, but a basic glue gun will do the same thing too
That’s pretty much it for the basics, but here’s what you need to finish them off for this little sign:
Some acrylic paint in pumpkin orange and some green for the stem.
This sign from HobbyCraft
This autumn craft paper from The Range
Mod Podge
Ribbons of your choice – Check out USATOUKWREATHS on Etsy for the most amazing selection!
A small bit of moss
Scrabble tiles
Create your hot glue pumpkins
So, exactly how difficult is it to make your own craft items? OK .. get comfortable for this one .. Fill up your mould with hot glue and leave to set. Seriously .. that’s it. Once the glue is completely set, you pop it out of the mould and it’s ready to paint! Just make sure it’s completely cooled down.
For this little sign I made three little pumpkins and painted them with some orange acrylic paint. Paint the stem green and leave to dry.
By the way, you can see how I made this cute little decoration on Facebook where I made it on one of my Lives. Check it out here. Oh, and while you’re there, if you want to give my page a “like” that would be great! You can join me for more Lives and crafting inspiration!
putting the sign together
Trace a paper of your choice to fit the little sign and use Mod Podge to glue this down. I decided to keep the paper in once piece rather than creating the little “slats” of the sign. I just preferred the solid background.
Once you’ve got your base, it’s time to use those hot glue pumpkins!
As you can see I used a fine liner to add some definition to the stripes. It’s completely optional of course, but I thought it helped them to stand out a bit more.
You can see my pumpkins had some very small air bubbles, so next time I need to be a bit more patient when adding the glue into the mould. I didn’t mind it though … I’m not aiming for perfection 🙂
I left some space at the bottom as I knew I wanted to add some letters. Use some hot glue to stick the pumpkins down where you want them to go. To create the feel of a little pumpkin patch, I glued them down at slight angles and added some moss at the bottom to set them on a bed of some greenery. Add the word “pumpkin” by adding some scrabble letters at different angles.
Add a messy bow!
Next, I added the messy bow first as I wanted to know how much room I had left over for the remainder of my letters. Not seen me make a messy bow before? You can check out a little video here which shows you exactly how I do it!
Once I glued on the bow, I knew what room I had left over for the rest of the letters. Just hot glue them down and you’re all done!
Now isn’t this one THE cutest little sign?
I absolutely LOVE how this has turned out and no-one would ever know it’s made with hot glue!
