If you ask me what my passion is, it will come as no surprise that I LOVE to create things. To make something cute from pretty much nothing. It gives me such great satisfaction to see projects come to live! Like this simple little £2 cheese grater. Who knew it was destined for bigger and better things than, well, .. grating cheese? Here’s what I did!
what you need for your cheese grater owl
A box cheese grater, similar to this one
Some smallish lids (I used the lids of some Vitamin bottles)
A smaller circle to glue inside the lids, to create the eyes. I used some of the flowers from this pack
Some black acrylic paint (optional)
Hot glue
Ribbons to make a messy bow – you can check out USATOUKWREATHS for some brilliant autumn ribbons!
Something to create the nose – I used an old silver scarf pin
Some metal wire
A small branch from your garden
Let’s get creative!
I started by placing the “nose” where I wanted it. I looked around the house for some suitable items and eventually settled on this old scarf pin that I found in the jewellery that my mum left me.
Have a hunt around to see what works for you! An old tie pin? A small piece of jewellery? Or the end of a spoon?
It turned out to be perfect for this project as all I had to do was slide it in one of the holes! You can check out how it looks a few photos down!
To create the eyes, I took one of the wooden laser cut flowers and gave it a quick coat of black acrylic paint.
Hot glue the bottle lids upside down onto the grater. Hot glue the painted flower shape in the lid to create the eyes.
You’re little cheese grater owl is starting to get some expressions!
For the rest of the project you can catch me on Facebook where I made this little fellow on a Live! And while you’re there, you may want to give me page a “like” – I’d really appreciate it!
To finish off this little project I added a messy bow. In some autumn colours of course, just to tie the whole theme together! Oh, and I added some silver glue dots to the eyes. Just to add some more expression!
Adding some feet!
Sorry, I didn’t have any progress photos of the feet as I made it on the Live. All I did was to wrap some craft wire around a small twig or pencil. This creates the little feet. I poked the wire through one of the holes and attached this with some hot glue on the inside of the grater. If you want to see me in action, head over to the replay!
Next I hot glued a small branch right underneath the “feet” – you can see what it turned out like in the photo below!
Finally I hot glued some craft leaves to the side of the cheese grater to create some “wings”. If you’ve not got any leaves of course you can use some real feathers!
Isn’t it the most adorable little owl?
And there you go, we created something CUTE from pretty much nothing! I love how she has turned out!
By the way, check out this other owl we created last year! It’s a bit bigger but just as adorable!!
It’s such a fun addition to the little autumn corner I created in my kitchen!
