Did you know that gift bags can be your secret weapon when it comes to budget crafting? You can often pick one up for next to nothing and get creative for a seasonal craft project. And so I couldn’t resist picking up this gift bag from Home Bargains recently. The little sign I still had, as well as the acrylic white paint and a bit of ribbon.
It screams Spring with all the lovely bright colours. And it has a bit of gold shine too! So .. what did I do with it? Here we go …
here’s what I used!
This sign from The Range
An Easter gift bag
White acrylic paint
Some pink ribbon
Hot glue
Mod Podge
Scissors
Let’s create a spring sign!
I started by giving the surround of the sign a few coats of white acrylic paint to get rid of the dark wood. This is optional and the sign would be totally “good to go” without adding the paint first. I just wanted it to be nice and bright for Spring! No photos of the painting process but you get the idea!
Leave the paint to dry (or blast it with your hairdryer).
In the mean time cut your gift bag to size. You want it to fit snugly in the frame so I measured it out with a ruler and cut it to size.
When you know the paint is completely dry, take your Mod Podge and cover the inside of the frame with a generous layer. Not so much that it’s floating around, but generous enough to allow the gift bag to stick.
Stick the gift bag down and leave to dry. Use a credit card to smooth out any wrinkles and get rid of any excess of Mod Podge.
finishing touches
It’s already looking gorgeous and good enough to have in your home. BUT, I had some ribbon left over from the gift bag, and a small bit of ribbon from my craft stash. I also grabbed a bit of raffia and combined the three to make a quick messy bow.
Finally I took a small rabbit embellishment. I had this one left over from this garland that I bought last year and took apart to make a sign. You can check out the project I created here. Have a look in your craft stash what you’ve got left over – a chick, an Easter egg?
Hot glue the ribbon and the embellishment onto the sign.
here’s the gift bag now!
I’ve tucked it into a corner in our hallway to add a bit of colour!
The bunny was a Facebook Market Place find from a few years ago. This year she is in charge of the carrot patch! I just stuck some small carrots into some artificial plants for a bit of fun.
I like how the bow fills up the space at the top. The blue colored ribbon was the original handle on the gift bag.
And of course this would make a lovely gift for someone at Easter too!
