Look, I get it … decorating for Valentine is not everyone’s cup of tea. A lot of people take down their decorations on Boxing Day and are pleased to get rid of them! The last thing on their mind is decorating a Valentine tree. So, let’s see if I can persuade you to change your mind!
To be honest, my big trees were back up in the loft very shortly after New Year’s day. But as always, with all the decorations gone, the house is looking so bare and it’s making me miss the joy and color of Christmas.
So, after a full year of doing hardly any crafts or seasonal decorating at all, I figured my little kitchen tree was the perfect place to start for an injection of some colour. I re-used many of the items I already had in the house so this pretty much cost me nothing to do. But I love how it’s turned out and added some fun to a little corner. Especially during a long January and some pretty miserable weather.
Here’s what I did:
After I took out all the Christmas decorations, I swapped over my colorful Santa Christmas biscuit tin for a neutral basket as the base. I didn’t take any photos of this step, but just use whatever base you feel suits your theme.
Time for some Valentine ribbon to start of with. Of course, from my favorite ribbon shop on Etsy: USA to UK Wreaths. Go and check out her shop – I guarantee you’ll love the ribbons that she has for EVERY season!
I created a “waterfall” effect with some lengths of ribbon which fill up part of the tree nicely. You can check out my previous blog post here where I show you exactly how to get this effect. It’s a LOT easier than you think!
ADDING THE DECORATIONS
Next I grabbed anything that was either red or heart shaped, or both. Fortunately I had managed to pick up a few items a few years ago in the sale which met the brief. I try to mix things up to decorate different parts of the house. Just to make it looks different without having to spend an absolute fortune on additional items.
Like these heart shaped tree baubles from Amazon here – with a combination of gloss, matt and glitter hearts they are THE cutest addition to your Valentine tree.
I still had some fabric heart decorations that I bought in the sale in a local shop, but Amazon do this set with a cloth finish which look gorgeous and would be enough to fill up a larger tree, or re-use them for anniversary decorations too.
And if it’s white heart decorations you’re after, check out these white glitter hearts for a bit of contrast.
Adding some more ribbon
Finally, there was something missing to fill up the gaps and so I grabbed some more ribbon. A smaller size this time to drape across the tree. I can’t remember where I bought this one from. I think it might have been The Range a few years ago. However, you can find a similar design in this bundle.
I’m really pleased with my little colourful corner and love being greeted by the hearts and lights every time I walk into the kitchen.
See the jars and little shelving unit in the background? I’m coming for you next! It’s my little coffee corner waiting to be jazzed up! ! Here’s one from a few years ago in case you want some inspiration in the mean time!
Do a girl a favour, would you pin this post so others can find it too? Thanks a million!
