It’s no secret that I love quirky things! And if it’s combined with re-purposing an item to create it on a budget, and with minimal effort, it gets my vote. Every. Single. Time. And this Jack Daniel’s bottle turned quirky soap dispenser ticks ALL the boxes. Old bottle to re-use? – tick! Budget? – tick! Easy? – tick! And with Father’s Day coming up why not give this project a go?
What you need to create your soap dispenser
For my one I used a Jack Daniels bottle. I really like their design and it was what we had to hand. But of course you can choose any other liquor bottle you want if JD is not your thing.
By the way, did you know that Jack Daniels was originally sold in round bottles, but changed to square to prevent them from rolling around all over the place? By the time their brand had become established, the bottle shape had become so famous that they decided to keep it. So now you know! If this question ever comes up in a pub quiz .. you’re welcome!
Aaaanyway, to create this eye catching soap dispenser, this is what you need:
- An old Jack Daniel’s bottle (or another bottle with a screw top that takes your fancy!)
- A pump dispenser all ready to go and be used here
- Brown coloured hand wash to match the whiskey colour, such as this black pepper, nutmeg and ginger soap, which smells amazing! This is optional as of course you can fill the dispenser with any type of soap or colour that takes your fancy!
If you’re getting the above pump dispenser, it’s simply as easy as cleaning the bottle, filling it up with the soap, fitting the dispenser and .. woohoo!! You’re done!!
budget alert!
Soooo …if you want to keep the cost down even more (which I did for this post), you can buy a cheap soap dispenser that’s on sale and adjust the pump to fit the bottle. It’s a bit more fiddly but well worth the effort. Just make sure the screw fits onto the liquor bottle you are going to be using! If you’re doing it this way, you will need some extra tubing to reach the bottom of the bottle – I used silicone tubing similar to this one . However, make sure to check the diameter of the size of the tube that is on the dispenser head to make sure it fits in the existing tube. (Needless to say, you won’t need this if you buy the “ready to go” pump dispenser already fitted with the long tubing).
How to put together your soap dispenser

I found a soap dispenser that fits the top of the Jack Daniel’s bottle. Of course you can take your empty JD bottle to the shops. Although … you may get some odd looks when you’re trying to fit the dispenser pump on the empty bottle. Ermm, I speak from experience people! Yep, been there .. So alternatively, I recommend you take only the top of the JD bottle to the shops and try to fit this onto the available soap dispensers. No funny looks, but no-where near as much fun 😉
I found this soap dispenser in The Range, one of my absolute favourite shops. It was a few years ago but they still do the same dispenser.
Alternative option for pump
If you don’t want the hassle of hunting around for a dispenser, you can just buy the dispenser pump direct. It’s all ready to go with the correct length tubing. Check out this pump here. It’s just a case of screwing on the pump, filling up and you’re all set!

Unscrew the top of the soap dispenser and fit onto the JD bottle.

As you can see, the tube is not long enough to reach the bottom. As such, you will have to adjust the length of the “feeding tube”. It allows the soap to be taken from the entire bottle, not just from the top.

I used some silicone tubing similar to this one to fit over the bottom of the tube (see above). However, make sure you get the right diameter tubing to fit the dispenser tubing to ensure a tight fit.

Cut the tubing to fit the bottle. Leave a little bit of space between the bottom of the bottle and the tube. It just prevents the tube from “getting sucked” onto the bottom of the glass. It needs a small amount of space for the hand wash to flow freely.

Fill the bottle with your favourite hand wash. I used a brown coloured hand wash to mimic the Jack Daniel’s whiskey. However, obviously if you like pink, blue or any other colour – you go for it!

Place the top onto the bottle and there you have it – your very own unique Jack Daniel’s hand wash dispenser.

Love the idea, but don’t have a bottle? Check out these great examples on Etsy which still allows you to have one of these quirky dispensers in your home.
