Anyone else get upset when their home is “back to bare” when the Christmas decorations are taken down? Not upset in the way that I’m sitting down crying over it, of course. (Because that would be weird!…) But, I do always have a bit of a dip after Christmas. After a few cozy days (even if this Christmas was just the weirdest), everyone is back to work and the house feels quiet and bare. And is it me but doesn’t January go on FOREVER .. ?! And so at the start of this year I’m embracing the whole “Love” theme. I’m hoping 2021 will be the year of Love. And Hope.
I started with a small Valentine’s tree – if you missed the post you can see it here. Go and check it out. I think you’ll like it! I had a great time decorating it and will definitely be making this a yearly thing!
And as easy as the transition was from Christmas to Valentine’s tree, I also made a couple of tweaks to my hot chocolate tray. Here’s some quick and easy ideas for the kitchen that you can do too!
Most of the things I already had in the house and so I grabbed a few white and red things to tie it all together.
spreading the love
The tiered storage jars were from Home Bargains. I crushed some left over candy canes and bought some red chocolate hearts from Poundland to fill up the jar.
The Love sign I made on a Facebook Live. It started its’ life as a sign from The Range for £2.49 but had a bit of a make-over by decoupaging some heart paper to it. Paint and hot glue some letters, throw in a little red heart and Boom!! You’ve got yourself a little Love sign. You can catch the replay here if you want to see exactly how I did it.
The white ceramic heart was an old lamp from The Range . Unfortunately it broke last year and it had been tucked away waiting for me to use it for something else (of course!). Turns out it was the perfect addition to this Love display. I was looking for some artificial red roses to tuck in there but you know #corona – I can’t get to the shops to get hold of any so it’ll have to keep for another time.
Add some Quick wins
The small milk jars in the wire crate were a Facebook Marketplace find a few years ago and I love using them for a cocoa stand (You can sneak a peek of my Easter tray where I used them too here). The red polka dot mug is an old favourite just to add some colour. And the scrabble tiles just add a bit of fun.
The red rolling pin in the background was one I made for Christmas. I just turned it around so you can’t see the “Ho Ho Ho” that’s on the other side!
I still had this tiny frame in my craft stash. It was from The Range originally. I can’t remember what it cost me but it would only be about £1.50 or thereabouts. I added some scrapbook paper and stencilled XOXO on the front of the frame with a stamp set I still had, very similar to this one from Amazon.
All in all I love how this has turned out and brought some colour into the kitchen. Fortunately I had quite a few things to hand. However, you’d be surprised how many things you may have in your home to create a little LOVE corner!
Could you Pin this for me so others can share the LOVE too?
