Are you a movie lover? We certainly are!! Whether it’s at the cinema, or curled up on the sofa, there’s nothing better than a Friday or Saturday night watching a good movie! Wait .. actually .. there’s nothing better than watching a good movie WITH some favourite snacks on standby .. (and maybe accompanied with a glass of white wine 😉 )
You’ve gotta love a tray!
And that got me thinking for this project! How CUTE would it be to have a family Movie snack tray?! You know I love trays and so of course I still had an old tray in the house that didn’t have a purpose. Yet!! Only thing .. it said “tea tray”. Not for long though! After a good old clean .. Enter some filler .. I filled the engraved words and left it to dry. Rub it down with some sand paper and then fill any gaps as needed. Leave to try and rub down until smooth.
Step one completed! That was the most tricky bit over with – the rest of the steps were a doddle!! And SO much fun!
Grab your blackboard paint and give your tray a few coats. I love working with blackboard paint. It dries so quickly and it’s so easy to apply!

Once it was all dry, I wanted to add a bit of detail to the edges of the tray and this “reel” washi tape was just the thing! So easy to apply – just stick it around the edges and press down. For the corners, I pressed the tape right into the corner, marked the line with a pencil and cut to shape. Press back into the corner.
Now, doesn’t that look SOOO much better already? Who would be able to tell that was an old tea tray?

decorating your movie tray
I ordered this pack of stickers from Etsy. There’s 25 in a pack and I picked out my favourites.

Once I was happy that the blackboard paint was completely dry, I positioned them in different places first. Make sure you’re happy with the design before taking the back off and sticking them down.
Give your tray a few layers of Mod Podge, leaving the layers to dry in between. Don’t worry!! It dries clear 🙂
Finally, I cut some vinyl wording for the side of the movie tray with my Silhouette Cameo machine to finish it off. “It’s MOVIE time!” But don’t worry if you don’t have a vinyl cutting machine! It looks super-cute without this too!

As luck would have it, I saw the popcorn bowls advertised on our local Facebook MarketPlace. Sometimes things are just meant to be!! I had seen these a few years ago in Matalan, but they sold out before I could buy them. Now, I got two brand new ones for half the price 🙂

And how perfect are they with this tray?

I love how it’s turned out and can’t wait to use it for our next family Movie night!
