Did you know that July is National Ice cream month?? Nor did I! Not that I need much of an excuse (.. I’m partial to a Magnum Almond if anyone is interested 😉 ) So, what better to celebrate the occasion than creating a quick, budget popsicle sign?! Which actually lead to some more summer decorating fun for our kitchen! .. all will be revealed at the bottom of the post! With a free printable for you to get creative yourself!
You will most likely have these materials in the house already so there’s no excuse to wait. Grab your materials and let’s do this!
What you need for your popsicle sign
A piece of scrap wood – mine measured approximately 39 x 14 cm
Some white paint (I used some left over paint that was suitable for use on wood but you can use acrylic paint too)
Popsicle or craft sticks – I used these Jumbo ones
Some bright coloured scrapbook paper or cardstock. I love the Craft Sensation range!
Hot glue – you can find my cute little flowery glue gun here at The Range.
Wooden letters (or vinyl if you’ve got a vinyl cutter). I used these ones from The Range
Let’s have some popsicle fun!
Making this fun little sign could literally not be simpler! Cut 6 popsicle sticks to size. Make them either level or slightly shower than the height of your scrap wood.
Cut 6 “popsicle” tops from some scrapbook paper or cardstock. I cheated by using my Silhouette Cameo machine! Don’t have one? Don’t worry! You can use my template here to trace them. Just trace and cut them!
Hot glue all popsicle sticks to your piece of scrap wood. I didn’t measure them out, but just make sure they are all roughly the same distance. Once you’ve done that, add your “popsicle” tops.
Finally, finish off your sign by adding the letters. I gave them a light layer of white acrylic paint (but didn’t get a photo of this step!). You can catch me doing the “real thing” on this Facebook Live.
I did the above photos to show you how easy the process is. Eagle eyed viewers will see that the order of the popsicles changed in the below picture! I did the above photos to show you how easy the process is.
Life’s better with sprinkles!
And that’s all there is to it! Here’s the finished article in our kitchen, which I think has turned out lovely and summery.
I made 6 popsicles because I wanted to spell the word “summer”, but of course you can make more or less popsicles on a bigger or smaller sign depending on what you want to write!
I also couldn’t resist making a little ice cream corner to tie together the whole summer theme!
You can download the “Life is better with Sprinkles” printable right here, so you can have some fun making your own!
The ice cream cones came from Malatan and you can find them here.
