Sometimes I see a piece of furniture and know I HAVE to get it. I have no idea what I’m going to do with it, but you just know it’s got great potential for a make-over. And this was one of those items. I got it for a bargain from Facebook Market place, where I shop .. A LOT!

To be honest, it was a pretty nice looking table as it was. Sturdy and in excellent condition. BUT .. I do like to paint and make-over items for a completely different look.
I just love bright blues and turquoise colours, but this one was calling out for something a bit different. So, that’s what it got – I decided to paint it black. Yes, that’s right .. I can do neutral!!
After the usual process of filling in, sanding it down and giving everything a thorough clean, I got to painting. I opted for a matt black chalk paint.
Filling in the gaps And .. sand .. a lot! Excuse the garden! .. building work in progress ..
HOT AND DEFINITELY BOTHERED!
So on this blog, I want to share the good, the bad and the ugly with you guys! And guess what? This project was about to turn ugly … Who knew that paint does NOT like the bright sun? .. well, this paint didn’t anyway. I painted this in the garden .. in the bright sun .. and it was HOT!! So when I came back after getting a drink, my gorgeous black table was a blistering mess!! (A bit like me when I found out .. ).

Ok, a slight exaggeration. OK, it wasn’t a complete disaster but some of the paint had blistered off the legs and the back of the piece. Sooo?? More sanding (and you know how much I love sanding…!) And more painting .. definitely inside this time. Fortunately it all turned out OK in the end. One thing to definitely keep in mind when things go wrong .. the majority of the time they can absolutely be fixed! It’s a set back, but not the end of the world!
Gold leg accent Wallpaper finishing touch Metal mesh gold detail It’s glitter you guys!! Love how it shimmers 🙂
To finish things off, I used some gold detail on the legs and the side of the table. ( This is the paint if you’re interested for any of your projects). And you know from previous posts that I love to line my drawers with wall paper. It’s such a great way of hiding any imperfections!
The whole thing got 2 layers of lacquer for protection as part of this make-over, and that’s it. What do you reckon? Was going back to black the right decision?
