Are you as excited as I am about all the Spring colours popping up everywhere? We had the first daffodils of the year in our home the other day – they are such grateful flowers! They start off looking like nothing. Although to me they look like asparagus when they are all still closed! And in hardly any time at all they are in full bloom!! .. the daffodils that is, not the asparagus .. It surely is the first sign that better weather is just around the corner. Seeing all those lovely bright colours make me feel happy. And so they gave me the inspiration to transform this little Hobbycraft bunny.
I had a bit of an online shopping spree at Hobbycraft the other day and bought this template. (OK, I bought WAAAAY more too .. SHHHH!!)
You can tell from the photo that I had already started painting! .. I’m inpatient like that .. I dive straight in!!
My hobbycraft glamorous bunny makeover

I wanted to introduce LOTS of colour to the bunny and so I chose a bright floral paper from an old design pad I still had to hand (Sweet Flowers from Craft Sensations). Unfortunately I can’t see it’s in stock at the moment, but I highly recommend browsing for “Craft Sensations” on Amazon or in your craft shop. They have so many amazing designs!
The bright orange pumpkin colour paint I had didn’t quite match the paper so I mixed with some white to make a much lighter colour. It’s not 100% the match, but it’s close enough!

The bow had to go so I pulled it off. I wanted to keep these white and neutral to add some contrast and tie in with the other colours.

I decided on painting 2 stripes and Mod Podging 2 stripes with paper. Just cut the paper to size, add Mod Podge to the wood cut out and stick on.
Cut paper in shape Mod Podge And stick down
Leave to dry and this is what I ended up with:

Cute little bunny ears
Those cute little bunny ears needed some pink!! Fortunately I still had a small piece of old felt to hand. This is readily available in any craft shop. Hobbycraft will no doubt have them and The Range do A4 sheets of felt for 50 p. Or of course you can use the same paper as the stripes, or any other material you have to hand.
I just cut the shapes and used some Mod Podge to stick them on.
Who can resists a cute little bunny nose?? They are so twitchy, squidgy and adorable .. Take some raffia strands and hot glue into space, before sticking on a small pom pom.
Now, you know that a project is not well and truly finished without a messy bow!! They hide so many mistakes. Did I say mistakes?? . .. there are no mistakes in crafting .. just opportunities for more embellishments!! Do you see where I pulled off the original little bow? – it’s looking messy. So .. you cover it up with a big messy bow instead. Here you go! Meant to be!

Add some accessories to your hobbycraft bunny
I still felt it was looking a bit bare! Fortunately I still had some lacy ribbon left over (the last little bit from the roll – as if it was meant to be!). I put some Mod Podge onto the bottom “stripe”, placed the ribbon on top. Leave to dry and cut into shape.
Finally .. this gorgeous lady bunny NEEDED a necklace to finish off her outfit. I bought a pearl garland in the wedding section at The Range last year. I snipped off a small section and hot glued the 2 pearl on the right and the left, leaving the necklace to naturally “fall” around the neck. Hot glue the excess on the back.
If you can’t find the garland in The Range, you can find a similar one on Amazon here.

all done!!
And here she is!! I’m still working on our Bunny Bar in the kitchen but with her colourful personality she’ll definitely be part of it!

Here’s a little sneak peek!

Who knew that orange and pink would be such a good combination?!
