From candle stick to Pedestal Picture holder

Blog· Easy Crafts and DIY

I’ve been eying up these cute pedestal farmhouse recipe or picture holders for a while now.

I figured it would look SO nice in the kitchen as part of our coffee or summer lemonade corner. With a cute picture or recipe on them that I can mix up for ALL seasons .. If you have been following me you know that I LOOOVE to mix things up for different times of the year 😉

Anyway .. I’ve not been able to find these pedestal frames in our shops anywhere (for some reason they’re mainly reserved for an US audience 😉 .. which can work out pretty pricey!) But don’t let that hold you back! Time to get creative and make your own! It’s easier than you think and I’m pretty pleased with how it’s turned out.

what I used to make my pedestal holder

This candlestick from Hobbycraft
A round piece of wood – 15 cm diameter – I used a wood slice that I sanded smooth
A thin piece of wood – 16 cm length, 3 cm width
A scrap piece of wood – approx 18 cm high and 14 cm wide
A small peg
Wood glue – I used Gorilla wood glue
Hot glue (optional)

Putting it all together

Glue the candlestick to the round piece of wood (I used a sanded wood slice of approx 15 cm diameter) to give it extra stability. I used some Gorilla Wood glue and left this to set overnight.

I glued a piece of thin wood on the candle holder to form a little “platform”. You can see this already glued on in the above video.

Once this was dried I glued a piece of scrap wood on top of this. I wasn’t too worried about this piece of wood being absolutely perfect. I’m going for the rustic farmhouse look here. Besides, I’ll be painting it too.

I put a piece of heavy wood on top to weight it down and left it to dry overnight.

Once it was all dried and secure, I applied some wood paint. Leave it to dry completely before hitting the edges with some sandpaper. You can do this as much or as little as you like! It’s your preference!

Finally, hot glue the little peg in the centre of your wood on the top. And that’s it!! Your own little farmhouse rustic picture holder.

let me show you what it looks like!

I’ll be using mine for displaying a printable or a recipe card.

For now I’m using it to tie the whole strawberry themed kitchen display together. But of course you can make these for your own and displaying your favourite photos.

I love how it’s turned out -it’s PERFECT for mixing things up by just changing the printable!
