Embroidery hoop mini Christmas berry wreath

Blog· Christmas· Easy Crafts and DIY· Seasonal decorating

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without adding a wreath (or 5 😉 ..). But sometimes I just can’t find what I’m looking for. And the wreaths I did see this year were either too big, too expensive, or both 🙂 I wanted to add a bit of colour to our cooking area in the kitchen by adding a small berry wreath. The wreath had to be quite small to fit that particular bit and I just couldn’t see what I wanted. So here’s what I used to make my own:

what you need

  • A small embroidery hoop (mine was 6 inches and cost me £3.49 from The Range)
  • A small berry garland. I got mine from a local shop, but Ebay do this one here.
  • A pair of pliers
  • Hot glue
  • Craft wire or floral tape

how to make your mini berry wreath

I started by cutting off the berries from the garland. Try to keep the stems as long as possible. You can always cut them down further if you need to later. Following this process for the whole garland so you’ve got lots of little berry bunches 🙂

I then used the left over “branch” to wrap around the embroidery hoop. It just helps to fill up some of the gaps.

Next I took some craft wire and started attaching the berries to the wreath.

Take the wire and wrap it around the stem and the hoop to secure the berries. Follow this same process all the way round by placing the next stem of berries next to the first one, but overlapping it slightly. Like this:

And again:

Follow this until you cover the whole loop. I know this photos doesn’t show the whole loop being covered, but you get the idea!

When I finished doing this I had one bunch of berries left over. I cut off the individual berries and hot glued them in any areas that had a gap showing. I also went around and hot glued down some of the berries that were sticking out a bit too much for my liking. Sorry, no photos of that bit!

If I was to make this again I would probably start by wrapping the hoop in floral tape to prevent the hoop from showing. However, it’s a pretty full wreath and you can’t really tell so I’m happy with how this has turned out.

Here’s our Christmas cheery cooking area now:

See the wooden spoons sticking their heads out in the left corner? You can find the blog post on how to make them here.

Or make your own cute hot chocolate tray! Check it out here.
