Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who’s the fairest of them all?? .. Well, I can tell you one thing for certain .. this mirror definitely wasn’t the Snow White of mirrors! In fact, it very nearly ended up in mirror heaven. But, you know me, I love a good project / challenge for a simple and quick makeover. And I just LOVE spray paint make-overs when it comes to minimal effort and maximum results!
Let me show you what it looked before before. As you can see, the mirror wasn’t the only thing that needed a completely overhaul!! See that shoe cabinet hanging on for dear life? ๐ I’ve got another blog post for the whole hallway project coming up REALLY soon! I think you’re going to like it so stay tuned.
And here are some close up pictures so you can see what we were dealing with close up ..
It wasn’t horrendous. The mirror itself was in good condition, but the frame had definitely seen better days. See those nasty scuff marks? There was no way to get them off.
And the colour didn’t fit with what I wanted for our newly decorated hallway.
But before risking 7 years of bad luck by taking it to the local tip ๐ , I decided to have a go with some copper spray paint that I still had in the workshop. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?
I covered up the mirror part with newspaper and stuck it down with some masking tape, as well as taping off the silver detail on the corners.
Take you time sticking down the newspaper, especially when using spray paint – it’s a real Houdini when it comes to finding the tiniest of gaps!!
The finishing touch for our new mirror!
Once the paint had completely dried we put the mirror back up. I must admit, I”m really thrilled with the results. And, in my opinion, it now earns the “Fairest of them all” title ๐ .. and so I added a quirky vinyl stencil to the corner. Just for a bit of fun and a daily reminder that we’re all beautiful people .. although it’s taking me a bit more make-up these days ๐
I cut the stencil on my Silhouette machine which is just brilliant for these type of projects. Want to see another example of what the Silhouette can do? Check out the before and after of this Lazy Susan. Or this super-easy Easter bunting which was a doddle with the Silhouette Cameo.
It’s in a different place in our hallway than before, but here’s how it’s looking on the wall.
Would you mind Pinning me for later?
